Stinson L5 42-98491

L’esemplare restaurato da Giorgio Bonato è stato costruito nel 1942 dalla Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation U.S.A.

Impiegato nel teatro bellico europeo fino al termine del conflitto, l’L5 ottenne una seconda vita operativa come addestratore primario nella nascente Aeronautica Militare Italiana.
Le note caratteristiche di robustezza e longevità gli permisero poi di proseguire un’intensa attività anche negli Aero Club civili fino ai primi anni 80.

L’esemplare matricola 42-98491 è stato ritrovato a Torino in condizioni di abbandono, ma dopo un controllo approfondito, è risultato recuperabile.
Fu così che nel 2003 fu deciso di intraprenderne un restauro approfondito e completo, portato a termine nel 2006.

Molte parti sono state ricostruite anche completamente utilizzando le stesse tecniche dell’epoca.
La livrea adottata appartiene ad un velivolo dell’ 88th Infantry Battalion “ Blu Devils” impiegato in Italia durante il secondo conflitto mondiale.

The aircraft restored by Giorgio Bonato was built in 1942 by the Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation U.S.A.

Largely exploited during the war period until the end of the conflict, the L5 model continued to be used as trainer aircraft in the new born Italian Airforce.
It was famous for its roughness, and that quality was the main reason for its long usage also in the civil aeroclubs even in the 80′s.

The sample with the serial number 42-98491 was found out in Turin in bad conditions, but a deep examination revealed it was recoverable.
So, in 2003, a careful restoring process began. In 2006 the work was completed.

Several components have been reconstructed using the original techniques.
The chosen livery is taken from an aircraft of the “Blue Devils” 88th Infantry Battalion, used in Italy during the Second World War.
