Nato dall’entusiasmo di Francis Lombardi con l’aiuto dei progettisti Mosso-Granieri-Mortara , l’FL3 compie il suo primo volo a Vercelli nel 1938 .Da subito l’FL3 si dimostra un progetto valido, per le caratteristiche tecniche e costruttive unite ad un’alta economia d’esercizio rispetto ad altri addestratori dell’epoca.La costruzione completamente in legno con l’ala a sbalzo, l’abitacolo con posti affiancati e l’adozione di un nuovo motore di bassa potenza appositamente studiato ne fanno, per l’epoca, un aeroplano particolarmente innovativo.

L’esemplare attualmente in restauro presso il laboratorio di Giorgio Bonato e’ stato prodotto nel primo dopoguerra (1947) e ha subito nel corso della sua vita operativa presso alcuni Aero Club notevoli trasformazioni.

Al termine di una meticolosa ricerca storica e di un’attenta ricostruzione delle parti modificate, l‘Avia -L3 della collezione Giorgio Bonato sarà l’unico volante al mondo del tipo militare (L3) con abitacolo aperto e pattino di coda.

Born from the enthusiasm of Francis Lombardi with the help of the designers Mosso-Granieri-Mortara, the FL3 makes its first flight to Vercelli in 1938.From immediately the FL3 proves to be a valid project, due to the combined technical and construction characteristics at a high operating economy compared to other trainers at the time. The completely wooden construction with the cantilever wing, the passenger compartment with side-by-side seats and the adoption of a new low-power engine specially designed make it, for the time, a particularly innovative airplane.

The specimen currently under restoration at the Giorgio Bonato laboratory was produced in the post-war period (1947) and has undergone considerable transformations during its operational life at some Aero Clubs.

At the end of a meticulous historical research and a careful reconstruction of the modified parts, the Avia -L3 of the Giorgio Bonato collection will be the only flying wheel in the world of the military type (L3) with an open cockpit and tail skid.
